The Cosmo Beauty Lab have just given out a whole bunch of awards to products which they think are the top dogs of the cosmetic world – but do we agree?

We took a quick look at 5 of the their champions to see if they can make us feel like we are winners in the battle that is skincare!

“Best Mask” awarded to the OLAY Regenerist Luminous Overnight Mask

Unlike most facemasks there is no need to wash this one off, instead leave it on overnight and soak in all the goodness so you wake up feeling like a goddess with smooth and even skin. Niacinamide is a form a vitamin B3 common in a whole load of beauty products and this one is no exception. This is one of our favorites as there is plenty of science to back it up but the main property we are interested in for this product is that it will help to hydrate your skin – perfect for an overnight mask! To find out how niacinamide hydrates and more reasons to use it check out our Molecular Mondays article devoted to this fab ingredient!

Japanese honeysuckle is also found in this mask which is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties and wound healing powers so all the hard work is done while you sleep! We have to agree with Cosmo on this one, it deserves the crown!

“Best Serum” awarded to Burt’s Bees renewal intensive firming serum

We love the sound of this one as it is filled with natural ingredients as Burt’s Bees always promise. These include apple, raspberry, watermelon, orange and lemon – a whole fruit salad! But the star of the show is the hibiscus, an antioxidant which are always important in any skincare regime, however we geeks have a small problem with this ingredient in that it may not actually be able to penetrate your skin to work its wonders.

Unfortunately this one seems to have tricked its way into the awards and we were less than impressed with the science behind this serum’s “firming properties”!

“Best self-tanner” awarded to Jergens natural glow instant sun sunless

As the sun disappears into rainy days again and the tan fades don’t worry we have a savior and no its not those dangerous sunbeds!! A light mousse, which dries in 60 seconds and gradually builds up a tan over the next few hours is perfect and it will leave your skin feeling great as it contains glycerin a common humectants to leave skin tanned and hydrated – those rainy days wont be too bad after all! We agree this tan deserves its award but should point out that there is a limited color range, you’ll have to choose between light bronze and deep bronze and there is quite a difference!

“Best cleanser” awarded to Simple skincare cleansing micellar water

Micelles in cosmetics are a new craze, which we really are going crazy for! If you haven’t already heard of these little science wonders you best head off to read our article on a similar cleanser by Garnier, as you really need the low down on what micelles are!

We love this cleanser by Simple and are so glad it has an award! With chamomile to soothe and Vitamins B3 and B5 this is perfect little cleanser! The vitamin B5 is in the form of panthenol, which allows this cleanser to moisturise skin too. Thumbs up from us!

“Best body wash” awarded to Aveeno positively nourishing smoothing body wash

While the all important sodium laureth sulphate does the soapy part, the walnut shell powder will gently exfoliate your skin and the delicious pomegranate is an antioxidant to protect skin from the damage we encounter every day. Not only do we love the ingredients but also the price! An award well deserved, this one has the beauty geeks approval!
