BUT – alcohol presence in a product  DOES NOT mean the product has high concentrations of alcohol.
We’ve put this down as a beauty fact, because high concentrations of alcohols are damaging to the skin (believe us, we use it in the lab!), and alcohol-containing cleansers and toners in particularly can be very drying. And so came the advent of alcohol free alternatives! However, many products contain alcohols in low concentrations, where it is thought to be harmless.
A thorough safety evaluation of ethanol (a commonly used alcohol) concluded that it was safe to use on undamaged skin and highlighted the complete lack of evidence for any cancer-causing effects of ethanol-containing cosmetics (or hand sanitizers either!).
