Throughout history gold has been used as a treatment for many skin problems and Cleopatra has even been said to have worn a gold mask every night to keep up her famous youthful look. Gold is becoming evermore popular in the beauty industry and is turning up in an increasing number of creams and serums.

It has been suggested that gold is able to minimise collagen breakdown and boost the skins elasticity, which in turn will plump and firm the skin to reduce wrinkles. Unfortunately there isn’t a whole lot of supporting evidence for this claim, only anecdotes from women experiencing a ‘gold rush’ after using it. We think it’s more likely that the glowing complexion as a result of these gold products is due to the presence of the other moisturising ingredients, rather than the gold itself.
