Nicotinamide (also called niacinamide) is used in a huge range of beauty products from our moisturisers to the cleansing formulas in our shampoo’s. It has been praised by the likes of A Model Recommends and Paula’s choice, and with good reason too. Nicotinamide is backed by a wealth of scientific research.

Nicotinamide is a form of Vitamin B3 that is readily absorbed when applied to the skin. It helps the skin maintain its waterproof barrier so it can keep hold of moisture and stay hydrated. Hydrated skin is always happy skin!

Nicotinamide can also act as a skin lightening agent, which makes it a useful tool for treating hyperpigmentation, as it can inhibit the process of melanin (our skins pigment) synthesis, to leave us with a more even skin tone.

On top of all that, nicotinamide is “sebostatic”, meaning it helps to regulate the rate of sebum (an oil produced by our skin), which is one of the reasons why it can help with conditions like acne, too. Find out more about acne and what causes it here).
