Top 5 Bargain Beauty Recommendations

According to our mum’s, Sudocrem is the miracle cure for just about any ailment we may have. With only 5 active ingredients, Sudocrem has a pain-relieving effect, perfect for burns, rashes and other types of angry skin. It also boasts the ability to close pores and can act as an anti-microbial, making it perfect for use on those pesky spots! But that’s not all; it can act as a barrier when applied to the skin, preventing any water loss, giving us baby-soft skin (and also making it useful for conditions like eczema)! And at only £2.39 for 100g, we’ll most definitely be stocking up. Once again, it looks like our mums were right.

You can find Sudocrem in most local supermarkets/ pharmacies, the cheapest we found it is here.

Neutrogena On-The-Spot Acne

This is one of those products that it’s useful to have in your make-up bag as you can guarantee those pesky spots will turn up the day before you have your graduation photo taken or when you are on holiday! Neutrogena’s spot treatment contains Benzoyl peroxide, which is a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to fighting spots. It is attracted to oily skin, acts as an anti-microbial to kill the acne-forming bacteria, as well as noticeably reducing inflammation! And that’s not all it does – it also contains a moisturizer to prevent our skin from becoming too dry. All of this is only £7.33 for a tube, thanks Neutrogena.

Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo

This one is for all you out there who have perhaps noticed that their Barnett is looking a little thinner recently! Alpecin claims its shampoo can stop hair loss in its tracks as well as making remaining hair stronger! The active ingredient in this shampoo is Caffeine (yes, the same caffeine we have in our Americano every morning). Caffeine can block the enzymes that encourage hair loss, so keeps our hair follicles in their growth phase, as oppose to their resting phase! All of this is backed up by some pretty sturdy science, and on top of that it’s only £5.55 a bottle, no wonder it’s been flying off the shelves…

e.l.f Illuminating Eye Cream

It’s no surprise that this product is featured here as e.l.f (eyes, lips, face) was created on the terms of affordable prices and high quality. Infused with jojoba, vitamin E, shea butter and cucumber, it claims to protect delicate skin around the eyes. Jojoba oil is an excellent skin moisturizer, while vitamin E will contribute to the skins antioxidant defense. If you would like to brush up your knowledge on antioxidants role against free radical damage, we have an article bursting full of information here. And finally, shea butter has anti-inflammatory benefits so is able to minimize the appearance of puffy eyes and cucumber contains a compound known as cucurbitacins, which is able to relieve us of dark circles (sign of relief from everyone who has been sat with cucumbers on their eyes after a bad nights sleep)! At only £6.43 a pot, us Beauty Geeks will be snapping this up!

Lush Ultrabland Cleanser

The Geeks love a good cleanser and the Ultrabland cleanser is a favourite amongst us, due to it’s attractive price and great natural ingredients. This is a oil-based cleanser that works by dissolving excess oil and dirt on the skin, without stripping it of natural oils completely. This cleanser includes almond oil, which is a dream for dry skin due to it’s high fatty acid content being very moisturising. It also contains honey and beeswax; honey is a natural anti-microbial and beeswax helps form a protective barrier on the skin to seal in hydration. To top off this maximum moisture cleanser glcyerin has been included, which has widely been shown to improve skin hydration.
