Recently we had the pleasure of interviewing Madeleine Spencer who is part of the beauty team at Marie Claire, to get an insight into the world of a Beauty Writer and find out what products are in her make up bag…

Oskia Get Up and Glow

Oskia Get Up and Glow claims to reverse the early signs of ageing and ward off unwanted wrinkles. This serum can be applied under make up, to act as the perfect primer or can be smoothed over the top of make up to deliver a mid-afternoon pick me up for tired or dull complexions.

Oskia’s formulation is packed with oils; almond oil is rich in fatty acids, which are vital to the function of our skin cells and when applied topically, can have excellent moisturising effects. By keeping the outer layer of the skin hydrated, it makes the skin appear plumper and so more youthful, which satisfies the claim for warding off wrinkles. Sesame seed oil is another great moisturiser, whilst sunflower seed oil has been shown to repair and hydrate the skin, too.

The Beauty Geeks have also spied glycerin and Shea butter in the line up, which are two of our favourite moisturising ingredients. Glycerin is hygroscopic which means that it can absorb water from the air, and bring it to the skin to increase the skins hydration, again helping it to look younger. Shea butter is another fab moisturiser, but has the added benefit of anti-inflammatory properties too, so is great to calm irritated skin!

Vitamin E is an antioxidant so works by blocking free radicals, which can form as a result of environmental stressors like excess UV exposure and pollution, that if left unchecked could manifest as premature skin ageing. The inclusion of Vitamin E in this line up enables it to tackle the ‘reverse signs of early ageing’ claim! However, we should point out that this ingredient features low down on the list and so we’re unsure whether it is present in high enough amounts to be able to deliver what it promises.
