Recently we had the pleasure of interviewing Madeleine Spencer who is part of the beauty team at Marie Claire, to get an insight into the world of a Beauty Writer and find out what products are in her make up bag…

SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF

Phloretin CF is the result of five years of extensive research by SkinCeuticals. It claims to be packed full of powerful antioxidants to shield skin from damaging free radicals and restore a more radiant, even complexion.

Ascorbic acid is a form of Vitamin C, and is the most widely used in the beauty world as it has the most evidence to support its use as an anti-ageing ingredient. Topical application has been found to increase the production of collagen, an important structural protein in our skin (which we are sure you Beauty Geeks will already know!). So it stands to reason that more collagen will act to ‘plump’ our skin, thereby reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The concentration of vitamin C in cosmetics is really important and it varies between products, but we were pleased to see Skinceuticals have used 10%, which means their product will be able to deliver what it claims!

Vitamin C also boats antioxidant properties so can protect the skin from damaging free radicals, so thats a check for the antioxidant claims. Phloretin and ferulic acid are additional antioxidants included in this ingredient line up and studies have found that they too can mop up free radicals to protect against oxidative stress.

However, we weren’t too pleased to see that alcohol is included as one of the top ingredients on the list, as high alcohol concentrations are damaging to the skin and can be very drying, so we feel this could counteract some of the great effects of all the antioxidants found in this product! If you do like the sound of this product, and would like to try it anyway, then the Geeks would suggest using a really good moisturiser afterwards to replenish your skins hydration!
