The Internet can be such a great place for finding out the latest weird and wonderful beauty crazes. But that doesn’t stop it from being a breeding ground for some terrible beauty advice that is completely ineffective or downright dangerous. The Geeks are here to demystify the some of the worst beauty advice as we come across it…

“You need to use all the skincare products in the range for them to work effectively”

This is not true. It is used as a sales technique by brands to trick you into spending more money on their products. Remember, if a product is any good then it should work as a stand-alone product!

“Don’t shave your legs as the hair will grow back thicker”

We all fell for this one! There’s no science to suggest that hair grows back quicker after shaving. Saying that, the hair may actually appear thicker because when hair is cut, as it leaves a ‘blunt’ end. These blunt-ended hairs are more noticeable than the softer hair that you had before shaving and so it may be felt more easily as stubble.

“Make up gives you spots”

We were all told growing up that “the reason you’ve got spots is from all that makeup you’ve been wearing”. Thankfully, this is not true. Acne is caused by dead skin cells, daily dirt and sebum mixing together and clogging our pores, providing the perfect place for bacteria to grow. If you clean your make up off properly at the end of the day, there is no reason that make up will lead to spots!
